Mandatory WLK 1.3 QFE001 Released on Microsoft Connect This fix resolves a problem in Windows Logo Kit 1.3 where incorrect GUIDs would be used to identify the locations of log files. New "Device Fundamentals" Tests for WLK 1.3 In Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.3, the Device Fundamentals set of tests have been reconfigured to be the core part of all the device logo programs.
In addition to the existing driver reliability tests, the following new automated tests have been added to the Device Fundamentals suite of tests in WLK 1.3: 1. PnPDTest with Concurrent IO in Parallel with DevPathExer - This test checks for compliance with DEVFUND-0043 requirement. This test will be applicable for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 device submissions only. 2. Reinstall with IO - This test checks for compliance with DEVFUND-0030 requirement. This test is applicable for Windows Vista and all later operating systems. 3. Embedded Signature Check - This test validates compliance with DEVFUND-0029 and is applicable for Windows Vista and all later operating systems.
In addition, the following tests are currently available as manual tests in the WLK 1.3. 1. Device Install Check - This test validates compliance with the DEVFUND-0006 requirement. 2. Driver Install Check - This test validates compliance with the DEVFUND-0005 requirement. 3. WDF Verifier - This test validates compliance with three different requirements regarding KMDF drivers.
These tests will be applicable for Windows Vista and later operating systems. The steps to execute these tests are described in the WLK 1.3 documentation.
DEVFUND-0005 and DEVFUND-0006 are existing requirements that are currently not tested in the kit. Addition of these tests to the kit will help address this gap in coverage and provides a uniform method for all partners to ensure that their devices meet these requirements. The manual tests are not mandatory in WLK 1.3.
The WLK Team is developing automated tests to replace these manual tests. The automated tests are planned to be released in WLK 1.4 and will be required for logo submissions.
Partners are encouraged to review the test documentation and run these manual tests on their devices and drivers to ensure that your devices and drivers will meet the requirements when automated tests are released with WLK 1.4.
New Support Alias for WLK 1.3 and Windows 7 Beta The Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.3 test kit provides a preview of the Windows 7 logo tests. We expect these tests to detect driver problems that were not uncovered earlier. These tests will also validate new features and aspects of the drivers. We actively encourage hardware partners to test your hardware with Windows 7 and the WLK 1.3 kit. A new support alias, WLK13@microsoft.com, has been set up to assist you. This is a free service for our partners for Windows 7 testing support only. This e-mail alias can be used for: 1. Addressing general issues with the WLK 1.3 kit. 2. Interpreting test failures encountered during your testing. 3. Assistance in filing bugs for Windows 7 operating system or Windows 7 test issues. 4. Expediting CSS incidents filed for technical issues in meeting Windows 7 requirements. CSS incidents to resolve hardware/driver issues for Windows 7 requirements, opened on your behalf through this alias, will be paid for by the logo program. All other support-related incidents should go through the normal support channels. Windows Logo Program Testing Policies for the WLK 1.4 Test Kit Release The Windows Logo Program will begin accepting Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 logo submissions for both devices and systems when the last release candidate (RC) of the Windows 7 operating system becomes available. The WLK 1.4 test kit will be required for all submission categories and operating systems sixty (60) days after the last RC release. WLK versions 1.2 and 1.3 will be retired sixty (60) days after the WLK 1.4 test kit is released.
WDDM 1.1 Optional on DX9 Hardware for Windows 7 until December 1, 2009 In December 2008, we pushed back the Direct3D 10 (GRAPHICS-0020) requirement date for Windows 7 to December 1, 2009. This was done in response to partner feedback that enforcing DX10 in June 2009 would not provide the desired eighteen-month notification for hardware changes.
Since then, we have received feedback that requiring the development of WDDM 1.1 drivers for D3D9 hardware would be essentially impossible given the schedules, and would affect the IHV ability to deliver quality WDDM 1.1 drivers for Windows 7 launch.
Hence, we are allowing DX9 hardware to be logoed with WDDM 1.0 drivers for Windows 7 systems, including desktop, mobile, and all-in-one form factors, until December 1, 2009.
This change has been incorporated in LogoPoint into the following two requirements: - GRAPHICS-0071 notes that WDDM 1.1 is optional for a display adapter or chipset based on the Direct3D v. 9 hardware architecture and shipping in a Windows 7 system (desktop, mobile, or all-in-one). - SYSFUND-00192 reflects the same from the systems perspective.
Clarification about Usage of WLK 1.3 for Windows Server Submissions WLK 1.3 is not supported for Windows Server system submissions. Server partners should continue using WLK 1.2 to make system submissions. This includes submissions for the Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 operating systems.
WLK 1.3 is supported for Windows Server device submissions. This includes device submissions for the Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 operating systems.
Upgrade Testing of Pre-installed Images Program Ends March 20, 2009 Beginning at the Windows 7 Beta milestone, the Windows Logo Team asked partners to test the upgrade of their Windows Vista pre-installs to Windows 7 and then run the Windows 7 tests in the Windows Logo Kit. This program will be ending March 20, 2009. During this time period, OEM partners who submit test logs will receive one free Windows 7 submission for each system they test and submit logs for through the Microsoft Connect site. Your submissions will be credited for the billing quarter after Windows 7 RTM. If you wish to participate, you must submit your passing and failing results through the "Microsoft Windows Logo Kit" site on Microsoft Connect ( http://connect.microsoft.com). Step 1, Get the Windows Logo Kit. 1. Log onto Microsoft Connect at http://connect.microsoft.com. 2. Click Connection Directory. 3. Under Microsoft Windows Logo Kit, click Apply. 4. Download the Microsoft Windows Logo Kit version 1.3. Next, take your already-shipping computer system with the Windows Vista operating system pre-installed. Perform an upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7. If the upgrade is successful, then run the Windows 7 system tests. If the upgrade fails, run the category "Failed Windows 7 upgrade." This test category contains one job which will collect the log file that is generated by the upgrade during a failed upgrade. Step 2, Submit the results of the upgrade testing: 1. Log onto Microsoft Connect. 2. Under Your Dashboard, select Microsoft Windows Logo Kit. 3. On the menu, choose Feedback. 4. Click Submit Feedback. 5. Select Survey for Win7 beta. 6. Complete the survey form and click Submit. 7. On the next page, under Repro Steps, click Attach files. 8. Click Browse, select your CPK, and then click Submit. |
