Update on the Windows XP Logo Program With the release of the Windows Logo Kit (WLK) version 1.6, we will be retiring the Windows XP Logo Program for devices and systems. The retirement of the logo program comes after the end of sales for the Windows XP operating system for Ultra Low Cost PCs. Systems and devices can continue to get a logo for Windows XP using the WLK 1.5 kit until that kit expires. We will announce the WLK 1.5 expiration date in the next few weeks. Any PC system or device that achieves the "Designed for Windows XP" logo status prior to the expiration of WLK 1.5 can continue to use the "Designed for Windows XP" artwork on the product and its packaging for the life of the product. Systems that are downgraded from Windows Vista or Windows 7 to Windows XP cannot use the "Designed for Windows XP" logo unless the system was submitted for the "Designed for Windows XP" logo status prior to the end of the program. If the system BIOS is updated after the end of the program, and the BIOS does not meet the guidelines in POLICY-0017, then the system must not use the "Designed for Windows XP" logo even if the system achieved "Designed for Windows XP" logo status prior to the end of the program. Devices or component manufacturers that have driver updates can continue to receive digital signatures for their drivers using the unclassified category in WLK 1.6. Submissions made through the unclassified category must not use the "Designed for Windows XP" logo, even if the device achieved "Designed for Windows XP" logo status prior to the end of the program.
