From the Editor Special Edition Hardware News: DDC, WinHEC, and Windows 7 Blog We are coming to you a bit earlier than usual this month to ensure that you are aware of two upcoming events. The Driver Developer Conference (DDC) kicks off in less than three weeks, and the early-bird registration discount for the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) ends September 19. See the articles below for more information. Also, we want to encourage you to participate in the Engineering Windows 7 (E7) blog, kicked off last month by Steven Sinofsky and Jon DeVaan. Find out more about the blog in the excerpt below. Finally, if you use the Windows Driver Kit (WDK), we'd love to hear from you. See the WDK documentation survey article and link below. Enjoy reading and (hopefully) participating in the blog. We look forward to hearing your WDK feedback and seeing you in person at DDC and/or WinHEC! -The WHDC Web Team DDC News Windows Driver Developer Conference: Three weeks away! Are you registered? If you are an advanced driver developer or tester, you should be. Windows Driver Developer Conference (DDC) 2008 is fast approaching! Registration closes September 25, not much more than two weeks away. DDC is all about content--deep technical content, hands-on technical labs, close interaction with Microsoft driver developers and testers, and no keynote addresses. This event will focus on key Windows 7 concepts and internals, device driver development, and technology-specific implementation. If you are an advanced driver developer or tester who needs to know about Windows 7, you should request to attend DDC 2008. Conference DetailsVenue: Microsoft Conference Center, Redmond, WA Dates: September 29-October 1, 2008 Cost: $795 (registration closes 9/25) Request for Registration If you want to attend DDC this year, let us know by signing up here. No onsite registration will be available. Note: Due to the confidential nature of this early Windows 7 preview content, DDC 2008 will be held under TPA and all attendees will be required to sign an event-specific agreement prior to the event, even if their company already has an NDA in place with Microsoft. You will find this document on the registration site. WinHEC News WinHEC 2008 Early Registration Ends September 19! Save $400 off the standard registration fee! Register by September 19 and pay the early-bird price of $1,295. This year's WinHEC is all about Windows 7. Plan to come if you design PCs, servers, or devices that run and interface with Windows and if you need accurate technical information about advances in the Windows platform. This year the focus will be on Windows 7, but you'll find keynotes, sessions, chalk-talks, and more that cover just about any topic of interest to a Windows hardware developer or business professional, as well as a place to network with Windows engineers. Mark your calendar, register, and plan to attend: Exhibits: November 4-6, 2008 Conference: November 5-7, 2008 Los Angeles Convention Center For more information, see the WinHEC Web site. What's New in Blogs for Hardware and Driver Developers | Excerpted from the August 14 welcome post: The audience of enthusiasts, bloggers, and those that are the most passionate about Windows represent the folks we are dedicating this blog to. With this blog we're opening up a two-way discussion about how we are making Windows 7. Windows has all the challenges of every large scale software project-picking features, designing them, developing them, and delivering them with high quality. Windows has an added challenge of doing so for an extraordinarily diverse set of customers. As a team and as individuals on the team we continue to be humbled by this responsibility. We strongly believe that success for Windows 7 includes an open and honest, and two-way, discussion about how we balance all of these interests and deliver software on the scale of Windows. We promise and will deliver such a dialog with this blog... MoreNote:The E7 blog is available in several languages other than English. These translated versions are available at the link above. | New Things Happening with the WDK WDK Survey: Help Improve Documentation in the Kit and on MSDN The WDK documentation group would like your feedback on the documentation provided with the kit and on MSDN. To that end, and also with your busy schedule in mind, we have developed a survey that is significantly shorter than previous surveys. Please invest 5 or 10 minutes and take the survey to share your opinions of the documentation. (As we hope you've noticed in previous years, we do take your feedback very seriously, and look forward to improving our product based on your input.) | | | Edition for September 11, 2008 | Tools and Links for Developers | Windows Driver Developer Kits, Tools, and Programs | Developing Drivers with Windows Driver Foundation | Events | Windows Driver Developer Conference (DDC) September 29-October 1, 2008 Microsoft Conference Center Redmond, WA
