Mitch Irsfeld
Greetings and Welcome to TechNet Flash,
The time has come, if you're looking for a high-performance computing solution that you can deploy quickly, leverages existing resources, and can scale from workstation to cluster - all in a familiar Windows environment. Last week, Microsoft released Windows HPC Server 2008. You are invited to download the 180-day trial software, or download the newly released Windows HPC Server 2008. Check out pricing and licensing information.

What can HPC do for you? Watch the live webcast, High Performance Computing for the Masses with Intel on November 4, 9:00 A.M. Pacific Time, and check out the other Windows HPC Server Webcasts. Want more evidence? See how Ferrari took Windows HPC Server for a spin.

Microsoft also recently unveiled Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Release 2, which delivers important new functionality that extends software-powered voice, particularly for remote and mobile workers, and provides on-premise audio conferencing to reduce operational costs. Find out What's New in Office Communications Server 2007 R2. OCS 2007 R2, currently in private beta, will be released in February 2009.

The Windows Server team is looking to get more feedback from the field about server performance in planning for the next release of Windows Server. In the Windows Server Performance Team Blog, the team shares its testing and guidance for performance tuning.

Speaking of performance, panelists praised Vista performance in Redmond Magazine's coverage of Microsoft's Springboard Virtual Roundtable earlier this month. The Roundtable, consisting of panelists who had actually carried out system upgrades, concluded that Service Pack 1 for Vista had transformed the often-maligned operating system into an ideal solution for enterprise IT managers.

Also on the Springboard front, we'd like to call your attention to the new blog by the Springboard Series team, which offers a frank, open and honest discussion on the challenges and rewards of adopting the modern Windows client environment. The Springboard Series team blog covers the tough issues around managing Windows desktop and mobile PCs, and will be the place to get up-to-date information on the latest Windows Client OS releases, beta opportunities, upcoming events, and more.
