WLK 1.3 Beta Alias Retires - Connect-based WLK 1.4 Support Extended for Windows 7 We have had great success with the Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.3 beta alias (wlk13help@microsoft.com) and its Microsoft Connect Web form. Partners raised nearly 1,000 issues, many of which resulted in fixes that are now found in WLK 1.4. With the end of the Windows 7 beta, we are retiring the wlk13help alias. All existing feedback reported to the alias will be resolved and partners will be informed of the results. For WLK 1.4, we are extending the Connect-based support found on the WLK Connect site ( https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=668) through June 30, 2009, as we start Windows 7 testing and submissions. We encourage you to explore the new rich documentation in the kit for self-help, but post your problems on the Connect site should you need additional help. You can also request technical help for WLK 1.4 from Microsoft support by opening a normal support incident through your technical account manager (TAM) or through the online WLK support page ( http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&prid=11880). This release of the WLK adds support for obtaining logos for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, in addition to supporting earlier operating systems. We encourage all Microsoft partners to use WLK 1.4 to start running these tests against your devices and systems in order to qualify for these logos. Some of the highlights of WLK 1.4 are: . Improved kit quality . Improved documentation . 49 new logo categories added to the kit since WLK 1.2 Early Bird Special for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Submissions The Windows Logo Program ensures that every logo-qualified product has been tested to install readily and run reliably on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.
To help our hardware partners achieve logo qualification, the Windows Logo Program team is pleased to announce that for a limited time we are reducing the submission fee. Effective with the release of Windows 7 RC, the fee for every new submission for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 logos will be only $100, a $150 discount. This is a great opportunity to lower your development costs by downloading the latest Windows Logo Kit (WLK) and testing your system or device for submission during this limited timeframe. This offer is available to both device and system partners.
Help Improve the Windows Logo System We invite your participation in the 2009 Logo System User Survey ( https://connect.microsoft.com/Survey/Survey.aspx?SurveyID=8400&SiteID=668). Every year, we use the data from this survey to inform our decisions and direct our investments in the Windows Log Kit (WLK) and Windows Quality Online Services (Winqual). Please help us make the right investments by taking a few moments to complete this brief survey. The survey is live now and will remain available through the end of May. In the 2008 survey you told us: . Small lab scenarios are the primary scenarios. . Partner perception of the WLK has improved significantly since 2007. . Failure diagnosis is the top priority for improving the WLK. As a direct result of your feedback we have done the following: . Begun work on a tool that will enable users to run individual logo program tests without the Device Test Manager (DTM). This tool will also have improved diagnostic features. . Continued to focus on delivering a stable DTM with predictable WLK releases. . Extensively reworked driver reliability tests. Introducing the Windows 7 Starter Logo We are introducing a new logo for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to use with PCs that have Window 7 Starter preinstalled. The new logo for Windows 7 Starter helps customers differentiate PCs that come with Windows 7 Starter from PCs that have other editions of Windows 7 installed. The new logo displayed on PCs running Windows 7 Starter will differentiate these PCs and, in combination with marketing and informational material, will help customers make informed choices about the edition of Windows 7 that they are getting.
The hardware requirements for the Windows 7 logo and the Windows 7 Starter logo are the same, so PCs running Windows 7 Starter can be upgraded to any Windows 7 edition. Windows 7 Starter can be pre-installed on only a certain set of systems as defined by the licensing hardware criteria outlined in the OEM Preinstallation Kit (OPK).
Windows System Integration Tests in Windows Logo Kit 1.4 Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.4 contains three Windows System Integration Test (WSIT) items:
. Secure by Default-DEP . Secure by Default-FirewallCheck . Responsive and Ready
Systems must pass these tests in order to qualify for the Windows 7 logo.
Introducing the Windows Touch Test Lab Windows Touch is a new feature in the Windows 7 operating system that allows users to control Windows and their applications using multitouch input. The Windows Touch Test Lab is a Microsoft facility to help partners to validate the quality of their multitouch digitizers for use with Windows Touch, and to provide the testing services necessary to qualify multitouch devices for the Windows 7 Logo Program. Windows Touch is a new additional qualification (AQ) and set of standards in the Windows 7 Logo Program, for devices and systems that support multitouch input. Given the importance of the quality of the multitouch user experience, Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.4 includes not only automated tests for this AQ but also a suite of manual tests such as tapping, gesturing, and drawing lines and arcs on the touchscreen. We also require that the Windows Touch Test Lab run the Windows Touch tests on devices as the final validation step of logo qualification (this validation step is not required for system submissions). To submit hardware to the lab or to learn more about the lab, see the Windows Touch Test Lab whitepaper on the WHDC Web site ( http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/input/WindowsTouch_Test-Lab.mspx). Driver Version Date Requirement for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Submissions For all Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 submissions, the driver version date (DriverVer) in the .inf file must be April 21, 2009, or later. If the driver version date is earlier than April 21, 2009, the submission will fail. For more information on updating DriverVer, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms794435.aspx. New Logo License Agreement 12.0 Now Available The new Logo License Agreement (LLA) 12.0 is now available for signing on the Winqual Web site (https://winqual.microsoft.com/). The new LLA was updated to include information about the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 operating systems.
Note: You must sign the new LLA 12.0 before you can upload any logo program submissions for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Winqual will block your attempted submissions for these operating systems if you have not signed the new LLA.
