Windows Logo Kit 1.6 to include SQL Server 2008 R2 Express

Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.6 will support running the controller on Windows Server 2008 R2, fulfilling a request from partners to move to a current operating system. The WLK 1.6 controller will not be supported on any other operating system or edition. Also, the WLK 1.6 will include Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express. If SQL Server is not installed on the system, then SQL Server 2008 R2 Express will be installed automatically; however, if SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008 is already installed on the controller, WLK setup will use the installed version of SQL Server. We are pleased to be able to deliver these improvements to the ecosystem community in the WLK 1.6 release, along with hundreds of content quality improvements.

Logo Programs Retiring: Network Attached Storage Devices

The Windows Logo programs for network attached storage devices will retire in concert with the release of the Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.6. The WLK 1.6 will no longer contain programs for "Storage > Network Attached Storage" and "Storage > Wireless Network Attached Storage." Partners who wish to continue to use logos for this class of devices may be able to do so through the "Networked Media Device > Digital Media Server" and "Networked Media Device > Digital Media Server Wireless" categories, respectively.
