Volume 11, Issue 18: August 12, 2009 | Note from the Editor Greetings, and welcome to TechNet Flash. We are virtually on the eve of releasing Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 and our main concern at this point is your readiness and awareness of all the new goodness that accompanies those products. Windows Server 2008 R2 evaluation bits are set for availability on Friday, August 14, a week earlier than previously reported. On Friday, check out the Windows Server TechCenter on TechNet for info on how and where to download the 180-day evaluation bits. I've been covering the new features of both Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 in recent editions of the Flash, but the story just gets better. For instance, the new operating systems will include Windows PowerShell v2 with a new version of Windows Remote Management. Why is that important? In the August edition of TechNet Magazine, Don Jones explains how the new remoting features in Windows PowerShell v2 are a powerful and simple way to run any commands on remote computers. Check out Stay Seated with Windows PowerShell v2 to see how it gets easier to run commands on remote computers. Our friends over in the MDOP team just released the beta version of Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) 4.6. We know that many of you are looking at application virtualization in both the context of your existing environment and also as part of your migration planning for Windows 7. Besides some enhancements to the sequencer to simplify the workflow for creating virtual applications, the team has added the ability to sequence 64-bit applications. Speaking of rollouts, SQL Server 2008 R2 is also getting closer to release. You can now download the SQL Server 2008 R2 August Community Technology Preview and see new capabilities for application and multi-server management, complex event processing, master data services, and powerful BI tools to empower users to access, integrate, analyze, and share information using business intelligence tools they already know. | Your Featured Content | Let us know what interests you and we'll deliver your featured content here in the next edition of TechNet Flash. | New Videos for IT Pros | | 13 minutes, 6 seconds Is your Windows Vista deployment being blocked by a custom application that won't run on a newer operating system?
