Windows Logo Kit 1.5 Released

The Windows Logo Program would like to inform our partners that we released Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.5 on November 25, 2009, through the Microsoft Connect Web site (https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=668).

WLK 1.5 will be a required kit for logo submissions effective February 1, 2010. Partners can choose to use either WLK 1.4 or WLK 1.5 for logo submissions until February 1, 2010. WLK 1.4 will expire on February 1, 2010.

Please note that we will no longer provide hotfixes (QFEs) for WLK 1.4, effective with the release of WLK 1.5 on November 25.

Preview Errata

Preview errata are used to mask failures in new tests or sometimes test cases within tests. If a preview erratum is applied to your test run, you should examine the failures in question. Do not assume that these failures are bugs in the test. The failures are most likely problems with the device under test. These problems must be fixed before the preview erratum expires.

Listed below are the preview errata that are currently in effect and their expiration dates.

Preview errata that expire February 8, 2010:
. 125: PCI Compliance test fails when SSID/SSVID registers are writable.
. 769: StorImports test will remain preview until further notice.
. 1198: UAA Test Preview errata: S/PDIF pin "Pin Sense" responses cannot use "Impedance" bits.
. 1212: NDIS WLAN: PrivacyExemptList_ext failure to set with OID_DOT11_Privacy_Exemption_list with revised version.
. 1213: NDIS WLAN: Encryption_ext OID_DOT11_MAC_ADDRESS_LIST set request expects an updated structure.
. 1245: GlitchFree WMV HD 720p video playback quality test cases 2 & 3 Preview for 6 months post WLK1.4 release.
. 1262: Windows Client System Check For WDDM 1.1 Display Driver Support preview until Dec1, 09.
. 1315: PREVIEW ERRATA: IO Cancellation with Direct IO: This test is preview in WLK 1.4.
. 1343: PREVIEW ERRATA: WLK DVD Spindown, WLK Optical Drive Streaming Mode, and WLK CSS Negotiation Region Check tests are preview for WLK 1.4.

New Means To Identify Preview Tests in WLK 1.5

In Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.5, we will introduce a significant change to the way new tests and points of failure are identified. The new preview filters are intended to mask the failures generated by preview tests. When a preview filter is applied to a new test in WLK 1.5, the following will occur:

. In WLK, the filtered error in the log will be like a modified "autotriage" error. The test will still appear as failed and will not be moved to a passing log. This will help you identify which failures need to be fixed when the test becomes required in the future.
. On the Windows Quality Online Services (Winqual) Web site, when you upload a CPK that contains a preview filtered log, any preview filter error will be treated as an erratum and will be given a pass.

Before the release of WLK 1.5, the Windows Logo Program team will produce a webcast to demonstrate how this works. Please watch the Windows Logo Program Newsletter for more information about preview filters.

Testing Process for USB 3.0 xHCI Controllers

Because Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.4 does not support Universal Serial Bus (USB) 3.0 Extensible Host Controller Interface (xHCI) host controllers, the USB Controller Power State Test and USB Host Controller Enable Disable Test fail in system testing and do not appear in device testing. Both tests have been fixed in WLK 1.5.

To test with WLK 1.4, first run a full set of system or device tests. Then use WLK 1.5 to run the USB Controller Power State Test and USB Host Controller Enable Disable Test, and submit those logs as a Readme file, along with the WLK 1.4 submission CPK package. Use the following submission procedure:

1. Create the submission in a normal fashion using the WLK 1.4 CPK package.
2. Reference manual errata ID 1767 in your Readme file.
3. Place the WLK 1.5 test results and your Readme file in the same folder for Winqual uploading purposes.

The log review team will triage the WLK 1.4 test results, then the WLK 1.5 test results. If all tests in the two CPK packages are passing, the submission will be approved. We will discontinue this manual erratum when we retire WLK 1.4.
