Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.4 Released!

We are pleased to announce the RTM of the Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.4, which is available for download via Microsoft Connect at https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=668.

This release of the WLK adds support for obtaining logos for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, in addition to supporting earlier operating systems. We encourage all Microsoft partners to use WLK 1.4 to start running these tests against your devices and systems in order to qualify for these logos.

Some of the highlights of WLK 1.4 are:

. Improved kit quality
. Improved documentation
. 49 new logo categories added to the kit since WLK 1.2

New Logo Artwork Package Available May 5, 2009

A new logo artwork package will be available for download from the Windows Quality Online Services (Winqual) Web site on May 5, 2009. The new artwork package contains artwork for Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2. It also includes new logo program public relations guidelines for Windows 7.

New Logo Style Guidelines Available May 5, 2009

A new Logo Style Guidelines will be available for download from the Windows Quality Online Services (Winqual) Web site (https://winqual.microsoft.com/) on May 5, 2009. The new Logo Style Guidelines contains updated information related to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

Support Alias for WLK 1.3 and Windows 7 Beta Is Closing

Support alias mailto:WLK13@microsoft.com will close on May 5, 2009. To obtain help with the Windows Logo Kit (WLK), open a support case with Microsoft support.

Customers who have a Premier support contract should work with their technical account manager (TAM) to open support incidents. For customers who do not have a Premier support contract, professional support options, including telephone numbers and pricing information, are available on the Microsoft Help and Support Web site (http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&prid=11880).

If we determine that the support issue is related to Microsoft, you will not be charged for the services (we either do not charge for the service or credit your account if a charge has been made). Some examples of Microsoft-related issues are a test issue, errata being processed or errata filters not working, a documentation issue, or a WLK product issue.

Early Bird Special for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Submissions

The Windows Logo Program ensures that every logo-qualified product has been tested to install readily and run reliably on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

To help our hardware partners achieve logo qualification, the Windows Logo Program team is pleased to announce that for a limited time we are reducing the submission fee. Effective with the release of Windows 7 RC, the fee for every new submission for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 logos will be only $100, a $150 discount. Please note this offer will remain valid only until August 31, 2009.

This is a great opportunity to lower your development costs by downloading the latest Windows Logo Kit (WLK) and testing your system or device for submission during this limited timeframe. This offer is available to both device and system partners.

Driver Version Date Requirement for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Submissions

For all Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 submissions, the driver version date (DriverVer) in the .inf file must be April 21, 2009, or later. If the driver version date is earlier than April 21, 2009, the submission will fail.

Windows Logo Kit 1.3 QFE 009 Is Now Available on Connect

QFE 009 to the Windows Logo Kit (WLK) version 1.3 is now available for download at the WLK Connect site (https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=668). This QFE resolves the issue of Bluetooth Controller tests not running on Windows Vista SP2. It contains the latest binaries of Bluetooth tests that will run on both Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Vista SP2.

This QFE is not a filter update. If a filter has not already been applied to your test, this QFE will not change the status of that test.

This QFE is for use with WLK 1.3 RTM (version 1.3.7000.xx).

Help Improve the Windows Logo System

We invite your participation in the 2009 Logo System User Survey (https://connect.microsoft.com/Survey/Survey.aspx?SurveyID=8400&SiteID=668). Every year, we use the data from this survey to inform our decisions and direct our investments in the Windows Log Kit (WLK) and Windows Quality Online Services (Winqual). Please help us make the right investments by taking a few moments to complete this brief survey. The survey is live now and will remain available through the end of May.

In the 2008 survey you told us:

. Small lab scenarios are the primary scenarios.
. Partner perception of the WLK has improved significantly since 2007.
. Failure diagnosis is the top priority for improving the WLK.

As a direct result of your feedback we have done the following:

. Begun work on a tool that will enable users to run individual logo program tests without the Device Test Manager (DTM). This tool will also have improved diagnostic features.
. Continued to focus on delivering a stable DTM with predictable WLK releases.
. Extensively reworked driver reliability tests.
