Windows 7 released to manufacturing.
Announcing the release to manufacturing of the much-anticipated Windows 7 operating system, which will be available to volume licensing customers soon.

At the 2009 Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC09), CEO Steve Ballmer noted that we're not so much in an economic recession as an economic reset. IT will drive the renewal, and Windows 7 may well be the catalyst. Corporate Vice President Allison Watson called Windows "the single greatest monetization opportunity" for Microsoft partners.

Senior Vice President Bill Veghte pointed to an IDC report projecting partner returns of over US$18 for every dollar Microsoft earns on the new operating system.
