Don't Miss Out: Get a Pre-release Version of Windows 7 at WinHEC 2008

WinHEC 2008 is right around the corner, and we want you to know that this is the Windows 7 conference not to miss. We hope you can join us in Los Angeles this November.

Learn about WinHEC from the presenters themselves by taking a look at the WinHEC pre-conference videos. Hear from Mike Angiulo, General Manager of Windows Planning and PC Ecosystem, who will tell you what's in store at this year's WinHEC. Check out what Sharif Farag and Pat Stemen have planned for their sessions on power consumption and extended battery life. Get a sneak peek from Son VoBa about enterprise computing.

WinHEC 2008 is all about deep technical insight on Windows 7. With 102 technical sessions and 55 panel discussions and chalk-talks covering Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, and other topics, you have a lot to choose from at this year's conference. WinHEC is designed to provide deep explorations of future engineering and business directions for PC and device hardware and will provide plenty of opportunity to connect in person and in depth with Windows engineers.

Who will be there?

We are making sure we have the right speakers to have meaningful conversations. The people who build and develop for Windows are working hard to make sure the talks are on target. They designed the code; they built the code; they tested the code. Having our core engineering team at the conference gives us an opportunity to have valuable dialogue with you. WinHEC is the only chance for you to engage with the team at this level -- there is not another WinHEC planned before Windows 7 is released.

What are we going to talk about?

In short, you'll see deep technical sessions on Windows 7 --- we want and need you to have the knowledge about Windows 7 so you can make sure your customers have a great experience and that it helps grow your business. While Windows 7 is the highlight of this year's conference, there are also plenty of sessions on Windows Server 2008, the Windows Logo Program, and other Windows platform topics.

Session descriptions are up on the WinHEC Web site so you can start planning your conference schedule today. Here's a few of the things that we are excited about:

New technologies: Hardware keeps getting faster, smaller, and more efficient. Windows 7 helps you take advantage of the new capabilities. If you're working on solid-state drives, multi-touch screens, wireless USB, or other emerging technologies, you'll want to know how Windows can support these efforts.

Fundamentals: The Windows 7 fundamentals team will provide tips and techniques for building reliable, high-performance machines and devices. For example, the team will share practical tips to optimize your system for a longer battery life based on real solutions that we've seen work in the field. We'll also demonstrate the new features in Windows 7 around power management and how to take advantage of them.

Enterprise computing: Join us to talk about trends in the enterprise computing space and how Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 can make your products more competitive. We've just posted the session description for a talk on virtualization and some new technology advances that will reduce WAN link usage and increase download speeds to branch offices. As companies become more geographically dispersed, optimizing these scenarios is critical to successfully competing in the enterprise.

Of course, the sessions listed on the Web site are just a small sample of the 140+ talks at WinHEC this year. Some sessions will be announced at the show because we'll be unveiling a few new capabilities in real-time at the conference.

After attending these sessions, we think you're going to want to see Windows 7 yourself. So, we decided to give attendees a pre-release build of Windows 7 to check it out, and help you plan how you're going to build on this new platform. This build is only being given out at WinHEC and PDC.

Session Descriptions Now Available to Help You Plan

We have a solid set of presentations to generate a good deal of discussion in the hardware community. Noteworthy topics include DirectX 11 graphics and 3-D rendering; parallel programming and multicore processors; green power management; multitouch, sensor, and location platforms; Netbooks; flash storage; and biometrics.

This year WinHEC tracks are aligned with five major themes associated with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008:

. Mobile Computing

. Connected PCs and Devices

. High Fidelity Graphics and Media

. Core Platform and Fundamentals

. Enterprise Computing

We also have virtual tracks with sessions that cross through all five themes. Global concerns surrounding climate change are raising awareness and demand for more power-efficient computing platforms, and so we are highlighting at WinHEC a virtual track for Green Computing. Also of interest will be extensive coverage of the Windows Logo Program for latest updates and requirements as well as application to specific technologies highlighted at this conference.

Details about the tracks and specific descriptions for most of the talks are now published on the WinHEC Web site. With more than 140 hours of technical sessions, chalk-talks and panel discussions, start planning your schedule now by using the "Add to Calendar" link.
